Travel to Bikaner : - Also known as the city of camels, Bikaner lies in the northern part of Rajasthan at a distance of around 320 Km from Jaipur. Bikaner was founded by Rao Bikhaji, a Rathore Prince from Jodhpur, in 1488. The city of Bikaner was modernized by Maharaja Ganga Singhji who ruled from 1887-1943. Bikaner is situated on a height and is surrounded by a fortified wall which runs for 7 Kilometers and has 5 gates. Bikaner's sandstone forts and palaces, colorful markets and decorated camels make it a fascinating tourism destination in Rajasthan India.

Bikaner has many historic attractions, such as the Jungarh Fort, Lalgarh Fort and Bhandeshwar Jain Temples. The Camel Breeding Farm in Bikaner is a unique institution where camels are scientifically reared. Spreading over 2000 acres of semi-desert land, the camel breeding farm is run by the Indian Government and is a leading center for the study of camels. The annual camel festival at Bikaner is a popular tourist attraction, where camels decked up in colorful finery are bought and sold. Junagarh Fort- Built by Raja Rai Singh, who was one of the most trusted generals of emperor Akbar, the construction of the huge and imposing fort began in 1589 A.D. and was completed in 1594 A.D. Impressively enough the fort remains unconquered to this day. The outermost wall of the fort is about a kilometer in length and has 37 bastions and two gates. The Suraj Pol (Sun Gate) is the main point of entry. Inside the walls of the fort are 37 palaces and many temples. Each palace is a masterpiece made up of fairytale towers and spacious balconies, constructed in red sandstone and marble. The fort also houses a museum with a valuable and rare collection of miniature paintings and antiques.

Travel to Lalgarh Palace Bikaner

Lalgarh Palace - Travel Bikaner to tour the red palace made of red sandstone bricks. It was constructed by Maharaja Ganga Singh in 1902 A.D. in honor of his father Maharaja Lal Singh. The palace was designed by a British architect. The palace is beautifully landscaped with several terraced lawns and bougainvillea bushes. One part of the palace has now been converted into a hotel while the other has been made into a museum with an eclectic collection of hunting trophies. The palace also houses a library, which holds the largest collection of original Sanskrit manuscripts in the world.

Bhandeshwar Jain Temples - Located about 5 km from Bikaner, the Bhandeshwar Temples were built in the 16th century and are an example of the enduring heritage of Rajasthan. These Jain Temples are dedicated to the 23rd Jain Tirthankar Parshvanathji.
