Jaisalmer Fort - Travel the huge fort that stands at a height of 100 meters and houses a citadel within it. It has a number of entrances also called Pols. These include the Ganesh Pol, Suraj Pol, Bhoota Pol and the Hava Pol. Just outside the Fort lies the main market place called Manek Chowk. If you walk ahead from Manek Chowk, you enter the lanes where you can see some amazing architecture in the form of intricately carved havelis.
Jain Temples - Built within the Jaisalmer Fort between the 12th and 15th centuries, this group of Jain Temples are dedicated to Rikhabdevji and Sambhavnathji. Within the temple complex is a well-stocked library called Gyan Bhandar. The library houses some very old manuscripts belonging to the Indian heritage.
Gadisar Sagar Tank - The tank used to supply water to the city of Jaisalmer. In winter, a wide variety of water birds flock here. There is a very interesting story behind the beautiful arched gateway that stands across the road to the tank. It is believed to have been constructed by a famous prostitute. When at first she had offered to pay to have this gateway constructed, the Maharaja had refused permission as he felt it would not be appropriate for him to pass from under it, which he would have to do to get to the tank. The prostitute did not give up and had the gateway built when the Maharaja was away. Very cleverly she added a Krishna temple on top of the gate so that the king could not tear it down.
Lodurva - The ancient capital of the Bhatti Rajputs, before Jaisalmer was founded by Rawal Jaiswal in 1156 A.D., Lodurva is a heritage destination, about 15 Km from Jaisalmer. The Jain temples at Lodurva are an important pilgrimage site for followers of Jainism. The temples are known for the delicacy of their carvings and sculpture.
Sand dunes - At Jaisalmer you can see the stark and beautiful landscape of the Thar Desert. Sam and Khuri are two destinations near Jaisalmer where you can see sand dunes extending as far as the eye can see.
