Mehrangarh Fort - The Mehrangarh Fort is 5 km long and one of the largest forts in India. Located on a 125-meter high hill and built of sandstones, the fort has seven gates, which need to be crossed to enter it. There are some beautiful palaces located within the fort that bear the heritage of Rajasthan and are worth a tour. Some of them are Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Sileh Khana and the Daulat Khana. These palaces are a store of priceless collections of palanquins, miniature paintings, musical instruments, period costumes and antique furniture.
Umaid Bhawan Palace - Perhaps the only palace to be built in the 20th century, the reason behind getting it built was perhaps one of the noblest causes ever. Maharaja Umaid Singh decided that getting the palace constructed was the best way to give employment to hundreds of people for a period of 16 years during his famine-relief scheme. The palace is still used as a residence by the royal family of Jodhpur and a part of the palace has now been converted into a heritage hotel. Discover the whole palace, which houses a museum with a good collection of artifacts. The architecture of the palace is a combination of the European classical style and some oriental elements. The palace is furnished with fashionable interiors in the Art Deco style, all designed by the renowned Polish artist and decorator, S. Norblin. The Umaid Bhawan Palace is a true wonder which you come across during your Jodhpur tour. It contains a private cinema hall, a luxurious swimming pool that has a gorgeous inlay of tiles depicting all the zodiac signs, huge royal suites, grand ball rooms, a majestic durbar hall, billiards room, libraries and staff quarters.
