Travel to Sawai Madhopur : -Situated on the main Delhi-Mumbai railway line, Sawai Madhopur is one of the most haunted tourist places of Rajasthan. Rich in history and legends, the town is the gateway to world famous Ranthambore National Park - the famous tiger reserve of Rajasthan.The place is a living witness to the course of events taking shape and sometimes history repeating itself.

The 13th century A.D. saw the coming of the Sawai Madhopur under the rule of Govinda, the grandson of famed Prithvi Raj Chauhan, the last Hindu King of Delhi. Following his death his successor Vagbhatta beautified the city and built a temple at Jhain.

The Ranthambore Fort passed different hands before it was ultimately gifted to Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I of Jaipur in 1754 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam. It served as the hunting preserve of the maharaja before its designation as the National Park.

Tourist Places in Sawai Madhopur

Ranthambore Fort - This formidable medieval fort of Ranthambore stands a sentinel to the past glory of its rulers. Within the fort are ruined pavilions, walls, chhatris majestic monuments. Another prime attraction of the fort is the 8th century A.D. Ganesha Temple which attracts thousands of devotees. An annual fair is also held here.

Ranthambore National Park - Travel the Ranthambore National Park, like most other natural reserves in Rajasthan, was the former hunting preserve of the Maharaja of Jaipur. In 1980, it was designated as a National Park and has an area of about 1300 sq. kms.

The 'Great Boundary Fault' where the Vindhaya plateau meets the Aravali range is a unique geological feature within the park. The Park is bounded by the rivers Chambal in the south and the Banas in the north.

Travel to Ranthambore There are several lakes within the park to be covered in the Sawai Madhopur Tour like - Gilai Sagar, Lahpur, Mansarovar, Malik Talao, Raj Bagh and Padam Talao being most famous of them.

There are good chances to see the tiger here, but even if it doesn't happen, it's worth a visit for the scenery alone.

The tour of national park reveals that it is home to several varieties of birds and animals including leopard, caracal, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, marsh crocodiles, wild boar, bears and various species of deer. The park gates open for half an hour before sunrise and close half an hour after sunset. The timings are vigorously imposed and no exceptions are made to this rule.
