Travel to Udaipur : - Udaipur has had romantic connotations since times immemorial. It is also known as the City of Lakes of Rajasthan. Interestingly Maharaja Udai Singh shifted his capital to Udaipur on the advice of a holy man who told him that his misfortunes were due to the fact that his old capital Chittorgarh was unlucky for him. The new capital on the banks of the Pichola Lake was named Udaipur after his name.
Tourist Places in Udaipur
City Palace - Tour the City Palace, a marvel in granite and marble and the largest palace in entire Rajasthan. The palace is made up of three Mahals; the Baari, Dilkush and Moti, a beautiful Suraj Gokhada (sun balcony), Mor Chowk with intricate peacock mosaics, the shrine of Dhuni Mata and the Rana Pratap Museum are some treasures of the palace complex.
Jagdish Temple - Located close to the City Palace is the Jagdish Temple. It has a gorgeous ornamented interiors and beautifully sculpted idols. Close to the temple is the Sahelion-ki-Bari or the Garden of Maidens, which has four pools, delicately carved kiosks, and solid elephants made of marble.
The Lake Palace - The Lake Palace is the main tourist attraction of Udaipur. It is now a luxury hotel so if you have the money you can experience a slice of the regal life in Rajasthan. The Lake Palace is only accessible by boat from the city of Udaipur.
Ahar - Located 3 km from Udaipur city, Ahar was the ancient capital of the Sisodia dynasty. Ahar houses a large number of royal cenotaphs of the rulers of Mewar. It also boasts of a small Government Museum that holds a large and rare collection of antiquities including earthen pots, iron objects and other artifacts excavated in the region. Udaipur has its own airport and railway station and is also well connected by bus from most tourist cities in Rajasthan.
